Được chiết xuất từ cây Trầu không, một loại dược liệu mọc phổ biến tại Việt Nam, tinh chất trầu không kế thừa đầy đủ dược tính của chính loài dược liệu phổ biến này. 1. Cây trầu nhận biết như thế nào?
Cây mọc thân leo, lá mọc so le, cuống có bẹ, dài 1.5 – 3.5 m, phiến lá trái xoan, dài 10 – 13 cm, rộng 4.5 – 9 cm, cuống hình tim (đối với những lá phía gốc) đầu lá nhọn, gân lá thường 5. Hoa mọc thành bông. Quả mọng không có vòi sót lại. Và được dùng phổ biến trong dân gian.
Trong lá trầu chứa những gì?
Trong lá trầu không có 0.8 – 1.8% có khi lên đến 2.4% tinh dầu tỷ trọng 0.958 – 1.057 thơm mùi creozot (củi đốt), vị nóng. Ngoài ra lá còn chứa protein 3.1%, carbohydrate 6.9%, khoáng chất 2.3%, và tanin 2%, nước (85 – 90%), chất béo (0.4 – 1.0%), vitamin C, A, phốt pho, Kali, Canxi, Sắt …
Trong đó, tinh chất trầu không là một dạng tinh dầu được chiết xuất trực tiếp từ lá trầu không. Qua đó mang theo tất cả những dược tính tinh túy nhất của loài thực vật này. Bởi vậy, nó được sử dụng rất nhiều, cả trong Y học cổ truyền và Y học hiện đại.

Thành phần carvacrol trong lá trầu không đóng vai trò trong hoạt động chống oxy hóa thông qua ức chế quá trình peroxit hóa lipid hình thành nên các gốc tự do trong cơ thể.
- Điều trị hôi miệng
Theo nghiên cứu lá trầu không có tác dụng chữa chứng hôi miệng thông qua việc làm khả năng làm giảm methyl mercaptan và hydro sulfide chủ yếu là do hoạt động chống vi khuẩn từ đó hạn chế hình thành mảng bám trên miệng và ngăn ngừa sự xâm nhập của vi khuẩn kỵ khí đường uống.
- Hoạt tính chống nấm, tiêu diệt vi trùng mạnh
Tinh dầu trong lá trầu không có khả năng ức chế hoạt động tăng trưởng và sinh trưởng của các loại vi nấm aspergillus, candida, ecoli 
- Hoạt động điều hòa miễn dịch
Hỗn hợp phenol, flavonoid, tannin và polysacarit từ lá trầu không đánh giá khả năng điều hòa miễn dịch. Nghiên cứu cho thấy rằng ức chế đáng kể phản ứng viêm và những rối loạn miễn dịch cơ thể.
Có tiềm năng ứng dụng trong điều trị bổ trợ những bệnh lý rối loạn miễn dịch cơ thể như viêm khớp dạng thấp, lupus ban đỏ hệ thống hoặc khí phế thũng.
